Pablo Sierra is a potter in Yocona, Mississippi. He and I have been friends for several years. The first time I took Jeff to visit him, this is the song that was born.
lyrics
Be Like Pablo
Be like Pablo
Be like Pablo Yea!
Be like Pablo
Be like Pablo
Be like Pablo Yea!
Brick by brick.
He built his Kiln.
He saw and willed it,
All the way to the end.
With fine gray ash,
He makes a bowl.
With pulverized glass, man.
He gives it soul.
Be Like Pablo
Be like Pablo
Be like Pablo Yea!
Be Like Pablo
Be like Pablo
Be like Pablo Yea!
His young gray mare,
turns the wheel.
His Mississippi clay,
Is his Mississippi Will.
Bowls, Pitchers
Saucers and plates,
Mugs for coffee,
Such beautiful shapes.
He came to Mississippi from Spain (throw more wood in the kiln)
Fell in love with the red clay soil (Get it hotter get it hotter again!)
Without money he found his way (Now put the formed clay inside!)
He willed it through sweat and hope (Watch it harden and sparkle in the fire!")
Animals animals animals everywhere
Animals come
whenever he calls
Roosters and goats
Horses and hens
Gows his own food,
You should see his garden.
Beautiful tomatoes!
Everything's growing.
Everybody see that nothing is wasted.
Everyone hear the story well.
Everybody touch the clay we walk on.
Everybody drink from the cups he sells.
Be Like Pablo
Be like Pablo
Be like Pablo yea
Be like Pablo
Be like Pablo
Be like Pablo yea....
